ASH WEDNESDAY

HOLY MASS WILL BE AT 9:30am AT SACRED HEART CHURCH

The Penitential Season of Lent begins on Wednesday with the blessing and distribution of Ashes.

This year due to the coronavirus we will have to do things slightly differently than what we have been used to. As advised by the Bishops office the format for the distribution of Ashes will be as follows

The priest will bless the ashes in the usual way

He will then say the formula ‘Remember you are dust and to dust you return or ‘Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel’ once only for all gathered at Mass.

The Ashes will then be sprinkled on the top of the head of the person receiving them in silence.

This is not something new that has been ‘invented’ for the pandemic but it is the way that many churches on the continent have distributed ashes for many years.
